Greater Epidaurus Area
Posted on Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
A number of landscapes in the Greater Epidauros Area will be examined and de-scribed whereas processes of change will be discussed and linked to wider policy considerations. Some areas, among others, of particular importance include the Sofiko Forest, one of the largest forests in Southern Greece that has been inten-sively exploited by local communities while the increase in the price of land give rise to new conservation concerns; the “Selonda Bay”, a wonderful bay along the Northern coast of Argolida, where fish farms have been operating for years, and thus the cumulative impacts of such activities along with certain tourist pressures need to be considered; and the Epidaurus Bay, which presents typical characteristics of expansion onto the rural land, as well as continuous building along the coasts and in areas nearby to the archaeological area of the Epidauros theatre.
