Until recently, many of the attempts to preserve biodiversity have traditionally been top down and stiff, with little understanding that “Biodiversity also incorporates human cultural diversity, which can be affected by the same drivers as biodiversity, and which has impacts on the diversity of the genes, other species and ecosystems” (UNEP, 2007). Often governments and international organisations draw zones or circles on a map and prevent people from using these highly sensitive areas, as a way to protect what is left of nature on this planet. more
