2007 was marked by a major achievement for MedINA: the first project funded by the MAVA Foundation, titled “Cultural aspects of Mediterranean wetlands”.
During the four-year project, the cultural practices and values of numerous Mediterranean wetlands were studied, analysed and documented, a book was published, and two further publications were also launched. Furthermore, an international workshop was held, in collaboration with the Society for the Protection of Prespa and the Mediterranean Wetlands Initiative (Medwet), attended by renowned experts on nature conservation and cultural heritage management, as well as wetland managers from across the Mediterranean.
The project supported the Ramsar Convention and the MedWet Initiative to incorporate the cultural values of wetlands into their work.
