17 environmental NGO’s submit complaint about Greece’s Next Top Model shooting in protected area

Thousands of viewers watched the TV show “Greece’s Next Top Model (GNTM) 3” on STAR channel on Monday, December 7th. On the popular show’s episode, wheeled vehicles were drifting on the beaches of Elafonisos and at the same time the presenters of the show kept proudly referring to the high ecological value of the area.

Elafonisos, due to its particularly high ecological value, has been included in the network of protected areas of the Natura 2000 Network as a Special Conservation Zone named “Neapoli Area and Elafonisos Island” and code GR2540002.

The locations where the GNTM shootings took place are protected habitat types under EU and national legislation. Off the road movement of motor vehicles is explicitly prohibited by law on the shoreline and the sand dunes. MedINA, along with 17 environmental organizations, submitted a complaint to the prosecutor and all responsible official authorities.

A joint press release was issued. Available in Greek:
