Barrier removal training seminar in France

  • ΕΛ

Between 27-30 June 2023 MedINA participates in the Dam Removal Training Seminar organised by the Dam Removal Europe movement in Rennes, France. The aim of the seminar is to introduce participants from 16 countries to the philosophy of removing obsolete dams from Europe’s rivers and to disseminate the steps a country needs to take in order to implement dam removal nationally. Participants will also learn about other countries’ good practices, how to address challenges (from social/political challenges to technical challenges), and the 12 experts from Europe and America will share their extensive experience with participants, experience drawn from the field.

In addition, participants will share their experiences of dam removal cases in their countries, develop a roadmap for their country, and in cooperation with the organizers identify areas where future training is needed in order to develop more follow-up courses.

It is now time for Greece to remove obsolete barriers for the benefit of people and nature. The removal of barriers is outlined in the ten-year European Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and in the draft EU Nature Restoration law that is currently being adopted. It is in the hands of our generation to put the scientists’ recommendations into practice.

We invite you to be inspired by the issue of dam demolition in Europe! Watch the DamNation documentary on Vimeo.

The seminar is an initiative of the Dam Removal Europe movement and is implemented in cooperation with World Fish Migration Foundation, WWF Netherlands, The Nature Conservancy, WWF Living European Rivers, INRAe, Luke – Natural Resources Institute Finland, Open Rivers Fund, Agence de l’eau, Forest Peace Foundation. MedINA received a scholarship from Dam Removal Europe to participate in the training seminar, due to its eleven years of involvement and quality results in the Aoos River project.
