The time has come for MAVA Foundation for Nature, that has supported MedINA since 2007, to officially close its doors. The farewell celebration took place on 9th March 2023 and was live streamed. Our Executive Director, Alexis Katsaros was invited along with other MAVA partners and staff to say a few words on MAVA’s contribution to nature conservation.
In this bittersweet moment, we want to take stock of MAVA’s invaluable contribution to the advancement of MedINA’s mission and work, and thank all MAVA staff, board members and the Hoffmann family for placing their trust on us during all these years. We are proud to have collaborated with MAVA and we wouldn’t have become a dynamic and impactful organisation with friends and partners across the Mediterranean and internationally without its support!
Luc Hoffmann, founder of the MAVA Foundation and Thymio Papayannis, founder of MedINA, shared a vision for conservation that sees humans as guardians of nature and stewards of the land. They were pioneers of integrated nature-culture management, a concept which is now embraced by the international conservation community. With MAVA’s support since 2007 we have been able to develop and implement a holistic approach to the protection and management of the natural and cultural heritage, working to build a future where societies prosper in harmony with nature!
The MAVA Foundation may be closing its doors, it is however leaving behind a dynamic network of organisations and partnerships that will ensure that its vision and approach will carry on for decades to come.
