The Directorate of Forest and Forest Environment Protection of the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems of the Hellenic Agricultural Organisation (ELGO) – Demeter are co-organising a one day conference to celebrate the International Day of Forests. Dr. Nicos Georgiadis, Forest expert from MedINA’s Scientific Secretariat has been invited to present the INCREAte Approach and its application in the island of Kythera. The conference will take place on Wednesday 21 March 2018 at 9:00 at the Conference Hall of the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems.
The opening addresses will be done by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Socrates Famelos, the General Director of Forests and Forest Environment Protection, Mr. Konstantinos Dimopoulos, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Agricultural Organisation (ELGO) – Demeter, George Karetsos. The conference will host nine speakers from a range of environmental organisations, universities and public services such as WWF Greece, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Directorate of Planning and Forest Policy. The speakers will address a number of issues ranging from urban green spaces, to education on forests, to funding opportunities and others.
Nicos Georgiadis will present the INCREAte approach which aims to improve the management of Mediterranean environmentally sensitive areas by integrating cultural aspects into nature conservation for improved conservation outcomes and is being applied in the island of Kythera by MedINA in collaboration with local partners.
