MedINA, as well as a number of civil society organisations from Greece and Europe, submitted comments to the European Commission’s public consultation on the single template for National Restoration Plans, arising from the Nature Restoration Regulation.
The Nature Restoration Regulation came into force in August 2024 and is a milestone in EU environmental legislation. The Regulation aims to restore ecosystems, habitats and species in all terrestrial and marine areas of the EU to enable the long-term and sustainable restoration of biodiversity and nature’s resilience, as well as to meet the EU’s climate change mitigation and adaptation objectives. MedINA, through its projects, seeks to contribute to achieving the objectives of the Regulation concerning the free flow and connectivity of rivers through the removal of artificial barriers to achieve good ecological status.
Member States are required to adopt the uniform template for the preparation of National Recovery Plans, which will be developed by 2026 and will be the starting point for the implementation of the Regulation and the achievement of its objectives.
