We are thrilled to announce that MedINA has officially joined the River Cities Network (RCN), a global initiative dedicated to the ecological and social revitalisation of rivers, waterways, and their connected urban landscapes. This marks a significant milestone for our organisation and deepens our commitment to safeguarding the Aoos River Basin.
The Aoos River, with its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant biodiversity, and centuries of cultural significance, lies at the heart of our work. As part of the RCN, MedINA will contribute to and benefit from a collaborative platform that fosters knowledge exchange, innovative practices, and transdisciplinary research. This network will enable us to amplify our conservation efforts in Aoos and further explore the intricate relationships between humans, rivers, and the broader ecosystems they sustain.
Moreover, our involvement will open doors to new opportunities for thematic diversity and innovation. For example, our ongoing efforts—from ensuring its free flow to promoting the establishment of the Aoos/Vjosa Transboundary Wild River Park—will be enriched through the network’s shared resources and multidisciplinary perspectives. At the same time, we hope to be inspired and learn from other members as we tackle the pressing ecological challenges of our time together.
We look forward to participating in upcoming RCN events, connecting with like-minded organisations, and finding solutions that honour the legacy of rivers as lifelines for both human and non-human communities. Together, we aim to shape a future where rivers like the Aoos continue to flow freely, nourishing ecosystems and cultures alike.
