In August 2020, MedINA was invited by Athens Live to their premises, in order to discuss with the press team, the framework of the New EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030:
In May 2020 – amidst the pandemic – the European Commission announced the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030. One of the ambitious goals of the Strategy is the restoration of 25,000 km of rivers into free flowing ones. This can be achieved by removing or adapting barriers, such as dams and river diversions.
Aoos river in Greece is one of the last free flowing rivers in Europe. It is, therefore, a unique opportunity for Greece – as a Member State – to promote it as a best practice example for the restoration of more European rivers into free-flowing ones.
