The website of the European project RIBES, which promotes social innovation and circular bioeconomy, is now available! Visitors have the opportunity to be informed about both the vision and the objectives of the project Moreover, the methodological tools are presented, as well as the synergies with other European projects.
A key element of the project is the ten selected pilot regions of Europe, where the circular bioeconomy will be further developed.
MedINA, as a project partner, connected with the Region of North Aegean (RoNA), will be involved in:
- The creation of the Greek Multi-actor Transformative Forum (MTF), which will be both a vital link of the project with local communities of the RoNA, and a network of cooperation between participants from universities, businesses, government, etc.
- The identification and understanding of both regional and local needs, as well as existing good practices in circular bioeconomy and their value chains in the RoNA.
- The development of the RIBES toolkit to support decision-making and the formation of an active community promoting circular economy and the development of bio-based products.
Also, visitors of the website will have access to the material of the project, which will be regularly uploaded. Finally, information will be provided about the upcoming events in which project members participated or will participate.
Recently, the Association for International & European Affairs organized an event at the European Parliament Liaison Office in Greece on September 30, 2024, titled “Cultural heritage and contemporary threats”. Representing MedINA, Rigas Zafeiriou, programme manager of ‘Sustainable Food Systems’ programme, presented the organisation’s holistic approach to safeguarding living food heritage, while promoting healthy agroecosystems and sustainable entrepreneurship.
During his presentation, he focused on solutions to tackle the unprecedented challenges of rural exodus, land abandonment and low productive capacity in remote and insular areas. In this framework, the new European project RIBES was introduced to the audience as an endeavour to accelerate rural innovation by encouraging circular value chains and novel governance models on Lemnos Island and the region of North Aegean.
