MedINA publishes Legal Guide for the protection of rivers

In November 2020, MedINA, in collaboration with Pindos Perivallontiki, published the study ‘A Legal Guide for the protection of rivers. The case of Aoos river, in Epirus’, within the framework of the project ‘Saving Europe’s last free-flowing river: Vjosa / Aoos’.

The report examines in depth the National and European legal framework for the protection of river ecosystems and analyzes the case of Aoos in Epirus taking into account all its special features and parameters.

Aoos, which springs in Greece and discharges into the Adriatic sea in Albania, is a rare transboundary river, as it is considered one of the last remaining European rivers to flow freely without obstacles.

The aim of this guide is that the citizens themselves acquire a useful legal tool for the protection of the unique river Aoos and its tributaries as well as of other Greek rivers.
