Screening on the history of the Greek countryside: A journey through the traditions of another era

The magic of the Greek countryside comes for the second year to the National Hellenic Research Foundation from the Hellenic Society for Environmental History, through a series of exciting documentaries that connect art and nature.

The Fridays of May bring to the big screen the Greek countryside and its rich history, with roots deep in time, inviting the audience to discover it. Every Friday a different screening; a documentary that showcases the diversity of the Greek countryside and tells stories of a past era that remains alive – and, in the face of the onslaught of the climate crisis, timely, if not necessary.

MedINA, in collaboration with Ethnofest, presents the short documentaries “Bread in Lemnos” and “Cheese in Lemnos”, which promote the traditional practices of the local community, the importance of bread and cheese in modern Greece and their production cycle on the island of Lemnos. An audiovisual presentation of traditional knowledge and the role that its utilisation can play in modern times.

The art of cinema “embraces” the tradition of the Greek countryside and the local memories and gives the audience the opportunity to be inspired and converse with the creators, passing the story from generation to generation.

Friday, 17 May 2024, at the National Hellenic Research Foundation (48 Vas. Konstantinou Avenue, Athens), at 19:00.

Admission is free.
