The educational programme “Souvales”, taking place in the framework of Med-RESET project, has started! MedINA’s team is already in Ios for an educational activity with a team of junior high school students, who learn about water management and participate in the programme, by contributing in the production of a documentary film.
The project Med-RESET aims to re-introduce the traditional practice of constructing stone-built weirs on ephemeral streams in arid Mediterranean islands and includes, among others, the construction of a network of 50 small-scale stone-built weirs (souvales) through a participatory project in Ios.
“Souvales” programme gives the chance to 19 participants from Greece and abroad to contribute to this participatory and environmental project of landscape restoration, through the reconstruction of a network of 50 small-scale stone-built weirs (Souvales) in the Mavroudi stream in Kampos of Ios, near the archaeological site of Skarkos.
At the same time, through an open program of activities and events, the project will serve as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practices related to the interpretation, promotion, and protection of the rich heritage concerning the management of natural resources and the landscape on the island of Ios and beyond.
