With great success and significant participation, the tree-planting event of the Valonian oak was completed on Saturday, March 15, 2025, in Agios Dimitrios, Lemnos, as part of the project “Conserving and enhancing agricultural biodiversity on Lemnos”. Over 30 volunteers, residents of the island, including many young children, gathered and planted 20 domestic oak saplings with the necessary equipment, protecting them with small fences until they grow.
These small trees, initially planted as seeds at the Special Professional Education and Training of Repanidio in Lemnos, found a special place around the area of the Agios Dimitrios football field, creating a greener and more welcoming environment for young athletes and for those watching matches and events. They were planted at a distance of 10 meters apart—sufficient for their rich root system—and are expected to contribute to enhancing biodiversity and the landscape.
It is worth noting that the existing trees in the area come from a previous tree-planting activity. “It is deeply moving and at the same time hopeful to see the trees I planted years ago -still a child- growing and providing oxygen”, said a volunteer of the tree-planting event, who had also participated in the previous similar activity!

A big “thank you” to the Municipality of Lemnos for providing the excavator, to the President of the community, Mr. Angelos Patrionias, to the President of the Cultural and Educational Association “Agios Dimitrios,” Mr. Panagiotis Skapetis, to the President of the Football Academy “Keravnos,” Mr. Nikolaos Marinakis, and of course, to the young and older volunteers who participated!
With everyone’s involvement, we not only supported the enhancement of biodiversity but also encouraged future generations to actively participate in the environmental management of their land.
