MedINA invites you to the tree planting event of the Valonian oak (Quercus ithaburensis subsp. macrolepis), which will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., in Agios Dimitrios, Lemnos (meeting and planting point: Football field of Agios Dimitrios), as part of the project “Conserving and enhancing agricultural biodiversity on Lemnos”.
The journey began about a year and a half ago when the seeds of these very trees were planted at the Special Professional Education and Training of Repanidio in Lemnos. Along the way, several saplings were distributed to local farmers and shepherds, in an effort to strengthen the natural plant barriers around their agricultural holdings. The remaining trees will be planted this coming Saturday, with the goal of preserving biodiversity and enhancing the unique natural environment of the island.
If you are interested in participating in this action, you will need to wear boots or rubber boots and, if possible, bring a hoe and/or a pickaxe with you.
We are waiting for you to plant the trees and, together, the hope, strengthening the resilience of the area to climate change and safeguarding the unique landscapes of Lemnos and its agri-food heritage!
