Two big events by Terra Lemnia in October 2021

Terra Lemnia carried out two big events in Lemnos in the month of October. The planned events were targeted to the general public, presenting some of the project’s most important work and outputs of the last two years and providing the opportunity of participation to constructive conversations on the .

To begin with, the presentation of the book “The plant wealth of Lemnos – Source of prosperity for the local community” took place on the 2nd of October at the Cultural Center of Portianou, where more than a hundred people from the island of Lemnos and other areas, attended the event and took part in an open dialogue with the contributors of the publication, exploring a set of aspects of the local natural heritage.

A week later, on October 9th, Terra Lemnia invited the local people on a celebration of the rich tradition and the island’s cultural heritage, themed “The Intangible Cultural Heritage of Lemnos: the living tradition which sustains and mobilizes the island”. The event was dedicated to highlight some of the elements of Lemnos’s cultural heritage which are part of the island’s identity and render it unique, such as the art of making the melipasto cheese, traditional basket weaving and the ‘mandra’ system. Scientific partners of MedINA, university professors and members of the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage – Ministry of Sports and Culture shared their informative presentations with the attendees and engaged in fervent conversation about the value of cultural heritage and how it can contribute to a sustainable economic future.
