On the occasion of this year’s World Environment Day, 13 environmental organizations join forces and address an open letter to the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, sounding the alarm over the ongoing environmental degradation in Greece. The letter highlights the urgent need for effective protection of the Natura 2000 sites, systematic and timely wildfire prevention, and a coherent spatial planning strategy that safeguards the natural environment from residential and tourism-related pressures.
At MedINA, we recognize that these challenges directly affect the ecosystems and local communities we work with. From defending the ecological integrity of the Aoos River to promoting sustainable agri-food practices on the island of Lemnos, MedINA’s work demonstrates that development and nature protection are not mutually exclusive. Environmental protection is not an obstacle — it is the only solid foundation for a just and resilient future, especially for local communities that live in close connection with their natural resources and landscapes.
