Celebrating World Wetlands Day on February 2, the Terra Lemnia project in collaboration with the Hellenic Ornithological Society and under the auspices of MedWet, organized a series of targeted educational activities in two primary schools in Lemnos.
On February 6, Roula Triggou, MSc Forester-Environmentalist and Coordinator for educational and maintenance actions of the Hellenic Ornithological Society visited the Primary School of Kontopouli, where she gave a thorough presentation about wetlands and the natural environment of Lemnos to the children and teachers.
She then visited the 2nd Primary School of Myrina on Friday, February 7, where the same presentation and workshop were repeated for the 200 students and school faculty.
Thanks to Mrs. Triggou and the valuable contribution of the Hellenic Ornithological Society, the island’s wetlands and their unique characteristics became the focus of the day, and their role to the preservation of biodiversity and livelihood of the local people was highlighted.
