Alexis Katsaros
Executive Director

Alexis is a political scientist, who has worked for many years as a project manager in the fields of environmental conservation, cultural heritage management and sustainable development. Growing up and receiving his education between two countries, Alexis has been exposed to different cultures and practices that taught him to deeply appreciate diversity in all its forms. From his early days in MedINA, he has found inspiration working with local communities. Throughout his 10 years at the organisation, Alexis has developed a deep understanding of challenges and opportunities in conservation. As the Executive Director of MedINA since 2022, Alexis leads a team of scientists who combine their knowledge, creativity, and passion to develop and deliver innovative solutions in response to urgent environmental and social issues. Through this mandate he is committed to strengthening the organisation’s efforts to operate in an inclusive and transparent manner, fulfil its mission and respect its core values.

Lily Mordechai
Head of Development

With an academic background in social psychology as well as geospatial technologies and environmental management, Lily has managed and implemented projects in the fields of environmental communications and education, social and environmental research and agro-ecology. Her collaboration with MedINA began in 2014 in communications and project management, she became Head of Programmes and a member of its management team in 2018 and is currently Head of Development.

Stefanos Dodouras
Head of Finance

Stefanos is an economist with a specialisation in Environmental Impact Assessment and a PhD in Sustainable Development. He has worked as a lecturer in the University of Salford and as a scientist and sustainability consultant with MedINA on a number of projects related to the integrated management of nature and culture since 2008. Since 2018 he has worked as a financial team manager in MedINA’s management team, while he remains involved in various projects as a researcher.

Alexandra Pappa
Freshwater Programme Manager

With an academic background in Environment and Resource Management and in Law, Alexandra has extensive experience in project management on environmental and social projects as well as expertise in environmental education. She has been collaborating with MedINA since 2019, supporting project implementation and development and acting as a focal point for policy issues. Since 2022 she is MedINA’s Freshwater Programme Manager.

Rigas Zafeiriou
Sustainable Food Systems Programme Manager

Formally trained in sustainable agriculture and rural development, Rigas is a cross-disciplinary professional with significant experience in climate change impacts, agrobiodiversity conservation and the development of hiking trail networks. He has been working at MedINA since 2017 as a sustainable development and tourism consultant with a focus on the island of Kythera. Since 2022 he is MedINA’s Sustainable Food Systems Programme Manager.

Fanikos Sakellarakis
Biodiversity and Ecosystems Expert

Fanikos studied forestry and natural environment management, and his expertise lies in vegetation ecology, systematic botany, and the management of protected areas. He cooperated for four years with the Tour du Valat research institute in France, studying the ecology and management of reedbeds and wet meadows in the Prespa National Park. He joined MedINA in 2022, while completing postgraduate studies in ecology and biodiversity management.

George Dimitropoulos
Proposal Senior Officer

George is an urban and regional planner with a Master’s in transport management and planning. He has significant experience in spatial and urban planning and strategic environmental assessment studies in Greece and abroad. He has been collaborating with MedINA since 2009 as a researcher and project manager with a focus on landscape and Sacred Natural Sites and Sustainable Food Systems. Since 2022 he is MedINA’s Proposal Senior Officer and actively supports fundraising.

Irini Lyratzaki
Cultural Heritage Expert

With an academic background in socio-economics and a M.Sc. in Environmental History, Irini has extensive professional experience in the fields of tourism, cultural content management and project management. She has been working for MedINA since 2004 as a cultural heritage expert in its scientific team with a specific focus on its work on culture and wetlands, Sacred Natural Sites and intangible cultural heritage.

Thymio Dimopoulos
Landscape & GIS expert

Thymio is an architect and a specialist in geospatial technologies and geography. He has been involved in master planning studies as well as spatial and urban planning studies of various scales both in Greece and abroad. He has been collaborating with MedINA since 2012 with a focus on landscape research and GIS.

Miranda Vatikioti
Project Manager & Community Engagement Expert

With an academic background in Humanities, a focus on Culture and the Performing Arts, and a skillset acquired in the fields of research and oral history, Miranda holds extensive experience in resource and project management management, focusing on vulnerability, inclusion, social awareness and mobilization. Since 2022 she has been collaborating with MedINA as the project manager of the “Alliance for Sustainable Local Development” project.

Rafail Giannelis
Lemnos project officer

With an academic background in Modern Greek and Medieval Philology as well as Ethnography, Rafail has extensively researched the social and economic structures of traditional societies in Greece with a focus on his birthplace, Lemnos and the island of Tinos. Since 2020 he has been working with MedINA as a local project officer in Lemnos supporting its Terra Graeca – sustainable food systems programme.

Danae Sfakianou
Agronomist - Terra Graeca Programme

Danae studied agronomy at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete. She collaborates with the Public Institute of Vocational Training of Lemnos where she has worked as an agronomy teacher. She is extremely passionate about agroecology, with a particular focus on the conservation of local seed varieties. Since 2018 she has been working with MedINA as an agronomist on Lemnos supporting its Terra Graeca – sustainable food systems programme.

Ioulia Skounaki
Scientific Coordinator - CULTURAL H.ID.RAN.T project

Ioulia is an archaeologist-museologist and currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of the Aegean. Her research interests center on public archaeology, museum theory and cultural heritage policy. She has participated in several projects related to spatial and urban planning, the enhancement of archaeological sites, the development of museum exhibitions and cultural events. She joined MedINA in 2021 as the Scientific Coordinator of the CULTURAL HI.D.RAN.T project.

Angeliki Foutri
Project Development Consultant

Angeliki is a regional and urban planner with a Master’s in Sustainable Development. She has worked in spatial and urban planning studies in Greece and has worked with MedINA since 2007 as member of its scientific team, supporting and managing a number of projects. Since 2017 she is focused mainly on MedINA’s work on landscape.

Vaso Zebeki
Accountant

Vaso is graduate of the Department of Economics and Administration at the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus with a degree in Accounting. In her professional career as an accountant, she has gained significant experience working for different types of companies and nonprofit organisations. She has been working with MedINA since 2007 and is now a member of its financial team.

Sotiris Spatharis
Accountant

Sotiris is a trained accountant with diverse experience in supporting the implementation of EU, national and private donor projects for a number of civil society organisations. He has also gained significant experience working as an accountant for private companies in the fields of imports, sales, construction and others. He has been working with MedINA since 2018 and is now a member of its financial team.

Communications Manager

Alexia is a Communications and Media professional with working experience in organizations and companies with global online presence, highly skilled in developing and implementing content strategies and media outreach campaigns, as well as ensuring internal and external communication with stakeholders. She has been collaborating with MedINA since 2019 leading on its communications needs.

Nicos Georgiadis
Natural Environment Expert

Nicos is an environmental and forest scientist (PhD) with extensive experience in environmental consulting, Human Resources and project management. He has worked as a scientific consultant for environmental and educational organisations including WWF Greece. He started working in MedINA in 2016 as a member of its Scientific team with a focus on the natural environment. He was responsible for the development of the INCREAte Approach and is leading on MedINA’s involvement in the island of Kythera.
