The GREEN TALENT project aims to strengthen research and innovation capacities and skills in areas related to biodiversity and climate, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme.
By bringing together academic and other partners, GREEN TALENT seeks to build a vibrant network of knowledge and training opportunities, connecting pilot hubs with broader European and international networks. A special focus is placed on Widening Countries, among them Greece, where capacity and skills development are particularly needed to accelerate the green transition. The project’s main objective is to halt biodiversity loss and tackle the climate crisis by enhancing the capacity and interoperability of researchers and professionals (R&I talents) across sectors, through a systemic approach that identifies gaps in knowledge, skills, and competences and works to address them.
The project foresees the creation of four Demonstration Hubs, where training activities, knowledge exchange, and networking will be developed in close collaboration both among non-Widening and international partners. Α roadmap will also be developed to identify the needs that hinder progress in research and innovation related to biodiversity and climate.
A total of 45 “GREEN TALENTS” will be supported through experiential learning, sustainable career development, and monitoring of the skills acquired. The project will develop open access educational courses on grant management, entrepreneurship, communication, and intellectual property rights, as well as interdisciplinary courses focusing, among other topics, on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and the biodiversity–climate nexus
MedINA is one of the 17 project partners from ten countries across Europe and the United States. Its contribution focuses on developing educational tools and capacity-building activities, drawing on its long-standing experience in managing natural and cultural capital and bridging science, society, and policy.
The project GREEN TALENT – Building capacity and partnerships for systemic solutions to the climate and biodiversity crises, with a total budget of 2.995 850,00 euros, is funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe 2021-2027. The lead partner is Ecostack Innovations from Malta and MedINA is one of the 16 implementing partners.
